The Hottest State

United 93 is without a doubt, one of the best and most difficult films that I have ever seen. It tells the story of the events of September 11 2001 in real time, with the focus on the hero’s aboard flight 93. Knowing that three other planes had already been hijacked and flown into the world trade center and Pentagon, passengers among flight 93 take it upon themselves to do what they can to take the plane back from the terrorists.
I have seen many movies about history. Some very good, and some very bad but none of them pack the emotional punch that comes with United 93. Maybe that’s because it’s an event I lived through, but I think it’s because in a society filled with violence and hatred, to find real life hero’s who made the ultimate sacrifice so others would live is so amazing that it’s difficult to even put into words.
There is a disclaimer at the beginning of the film that some imagination had to be used. Obviously this is because no one will ever really know exactly how the events aboard that plane transpired. The filmmakers do a wonderful job though of putting as much of the pieces together so that you feel as if you are on the plane. The Cast, filled with unknown or lesser known actors do a great job. The emotions they show from beginning to end, make you feel as if you are watching a real taping of the events and not a film From the phone calls they made to loved ones, to the acceptance that they must take action in order to have a chance, this film shows you as best it can, what these people went through.
United 93 is not an easy movie to sit through. After seeing it, I am still not sure that I will ever be able to sit through it again. This is a film that will pull at your heartstrings like no other and you will find yourself back on that terrible day in history. This is by far one of the best movies that I have ever seen and recommend it to everyone who thinks they can sit through it.
