Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead man’s chest once again unites the cast of Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Kiera Knightly, as the three set off to the high sees in an effort to find a chest containing the heart of Davy Jones.
While I would agree that this movie was not as good as the first, and we all know most sequels are not, I have to say that I would still give this movie 3 out of 4 stars. It was funnier than the first movie; however the story seemed a little choppier at time. The CGI was some of the best I’ve seen, however all of the close-up shots of the Krackin (giant squid) looked like some of the worst special effects. To use CGI and make Davy Jones look so real, and then have what you had with the Krackin was just shameful. However, I did find myself craving some calamari when the movie was over.
I was very pleased that the filmmakers finally decided to add some depth to the characters of Will Turner, and Elizabeth Swann. The movie shows some conflict between the two of them, and I think it will be in the third film that we will finally see how strong their love for one another is. Dead Man’s Chest raises a lot of questions for our trio of hero’s and does very little to answer any of them. Luckily they have a whole other film to tackle that task.
